Five months after the launch of the NCDI Poverty Network Co-Secretariat and Southern Africa Regional Hub at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) in Maputo on 27 October 2021, the Mozambique Co-Secretariat is preparing to move into office space assigned for it on the main university campus.

The Mozambique Co-Secretariat and Southern Africa Regional Hub will expand the Network’s reach and strengthen its impact in the region by accelerating implementation of national-level interventions to alleviate the burden of non-communicable diseases and injuries for people living in extreme poverty.

NCDI Poverty Network Co-Chair Ana Mocumbi received the office keys from UEM on 28 January. Located across from the UEM Center of African Studies and next to the campus library, it is easily accessible for academic collaborators. Although a few refurbishments are required, the plan is to occupy the office within a short time.

The Mozambique Co-Secretariat staff is growing rapidly under the leadership of Dr. Mocumbi. Current team members include UEM Research Director Emilio Tostão, UEM Head of Research Project Support Division Beatriz Chongo, Pharmacist and Health Systems’ Consultant Neusa Bay, and a technical and administrative support team for membership and engagement, project management and administration, advocacy and communication, and monitoring and evaluation activities.
