Republic of Somaliland Joins the Network

Following an event marking the Republic of Somaliland’s official partnership with the NCDI Poverty Network, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (seated at the end of the table) met with three Network representatives: Dr. Gene Bukhman, co-chair (fifth from left); Dr. Neil Gupta, senior director of policy (fourth from left); and Dr. Natnael Abebe (second from left), regional advisor for East Africa.

In a launch event in late July, the Republic of Somaliland announced a partnership with the NCDI Poverty Network to support people living with severe, chronic noncommunicable diseases through PEN-Plus, an integrated care delivery model.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland noted that the partnership “marks a significant step forward in strengthening the ministry’s efforts to improve health services, particularly in addressing noncommunicable diseases.”

The launch event was held at the Maansoor Hotel in Hargeisa and attended by senior ministry officials, international organization representatives, and members of the health community.

The event was followed by a visit to the palace of the Government of the Republic of Somaliland, or JSL, also in Hargeisa. There President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi received and spoke with three Network representatives: Dr. Gene Bukhman, co-chair; Dr. Neil Gupta, senior director of policy; and Dr. Natnael Abebe, regional advisor for East Africa.

A social media post by the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the president congratulated the Network “for continuous support in strengthening JSL health services.”
