Lucy Johnbosco
Type 1 Diabetes Warrior from Ghana
Lucy Johnbosco, a type 1 diabetes advocate in Tanzania, was diagnosed with the condition more than two decades ago. Through the nonprofit organization she founded—Diabetes Consciousness for Community, or DICOCO, which is registered under Tanzania’s Ministry of Health—she focuses on building awareness of type 1 diabetes through a range of programs, including diabetes awareness clubs in primary schools, community-based diabetes awareness programs, and media-driven diabetes awareness campaigns in Tanzania.
Johnbosco is also an active member of T1International and the International Diabetes Federation–Blue Circle Voice. She joined the NCDI Poverty Network’s Voices for PEN-Plus program in April 2024 and was appointed to the Network’s Steering Committee the following November.
Johnbosco holds a bachelor’s degree in conflict resolution and peacebuilding from Kampala University and a master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Dar es Salaam School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
